TogaLabs, in partnership with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and other suppliers will be commemorating World Aids Day this year with a special ceremony to donate necessary items to the St. Francis Care Centre in Boksburg, Gauteng.
Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics will be donating fleece jackets to the 46 HIV orphans housed at the St. Francis Care Centre, as well as a washing machine for the centre’s use.
The St Francis Care Centre was founded by Father Stan Brennan, OFM, in 1992, in response to the plight of people affected by HIV/ AIDS. He was deeply touched by the neglect suffered by those infected with the disease and established the centre as a refuge where they would find compassion and treatment.
Today, the centre comprises an adult Hospice where terminally ill patients are cared for. The Rainbow Cottage provides a home for 30 abandoned or orphaned children up to the age of seven. The anti-retroviral clinic offers free testing, counselling and treatment to all members of the community.
Helen Brown, CEO of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, says, “We’re delighted to contribute to this cause and show our commitment to the fight against HIV/ AIDS, which is why we did not hesitate to come on board when we were approached by TogaLabs.” Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics is the preferred supplier to TogaLabs of automation and molecular diagnostic equipment for HIV Testing. “TogaLabs is a key user of our VERSANT® HIV-1 bDNA assay,” Steyn informs.
The handover will take place at St Francis Care Centre, on 30 November.
