Balancing machinery like turbines and compressor rotors is essential from both a fault correction and preventative maintenance point of view, as excessive vibration in rotating machinery substantially reduces the life of the machine and can affect the unit’s performance if it is in an unbalanced state.

The high speed facility is capable of balancing rotors with a running speed of up to 40,000 RPM to a length of 5,5 metres and a maximum diameter of 1,5 metres in fluid filled bearings.

The low speed facility runs Schenck Hard Bearing machines which can balance rotors from 3,5kg to 20 tons with a maximum length of 6,5 metres and 2 metres in diameter. These machines are suitable for balancing almost any rotating components from compressor rotors to fans, pump impellers, electrical armatures and pinion shafts, among others.

The facility boasts the ability of over speed testing of impellers. Expertise also extends to the establishment of probe tracks and the correction of the electrical run out on these tracks. For added peace of mind, Siemens provides very accurate analysis documentation on the rotating equipment, especially on the high speed machines, where one can actually see the exact “Signature” of the rotor at operating and critical speeds.
